About me
Hello, I’m Karen — a contemporary oil painter living and working in the beautiful Dordogne region of France.
My work is inspired by the light and atmosphere of the places around me. I paint mostly en plein air, setting up my easel outdoors and responding directly to the shifting colours, shadows, and moods of the landscape. Ancient villages, quiet streets, historic châteaux, and the gentle flow of the river all find their way into my paintings.
I’m largely self-taught, and I discovered painting simply because I felt drawn to express what I was seeing and feeling. What began as a personal creative escape has become something far more meaningful — a daily practice of noticing beauty and sharing it with others.
I don’t try to recreate a scene exactly as it is. Instead, I focus on the moment — the warmth of the sun on golden stone, the cool hush of a shaded courtyard, or the sparkle of evening light just before it fades. Each painting is a record of being present in that moment.
I now have collectors in France, Ireland, and the UK, and I continue to explore new ways to bring the spirit of this region to life on canvas. I hope my work offers you a sense of calm, connection, and the simple joy of seeing familiar places in a new way.
Thank you for visiting my work — I’m delighted you’re here.
